Sports Awards Evening

This year’s annual Sports Awards Evening was a huge success with over 50 students celebrating their sporting success alongside their friends and families. Due to winning the County Futsal Championship and gaining 2nd place at the Regional Finals, the Team of the Year was awarded to the boy’s U15 Futsal Team. The biggest award of the evening, the Sports Personality of the Year Award 2019, had 8 well deserved nominees. The final result saw Harry Rowland in 3rd place for his achievements in kickboxing; in 2nd place Molly Emerton for her achievements in triathlon and cycling and finally, this year’s winner was Isaac Thorpe for his achievements in basketball. Huge congratulations for everyone who received an award that evening.

Guest speaker Jess Roberts returned to Heanor Gate having completed her university degree in sport science and PGCE in secondary PE teaching. Jess, who previously studied BTEC Sport in Y11 and A level PE in the 6th form at Heanor Gate, has gone on to secure a PE teaching job at Rushcliffe, another secondary school within our trust. She is a fantastic role model to our students and a testament to the school’s commitment to produce life-long learners and great assets to the local community.
