Principal's Blog - 17 December

w/c 17 December

Well we have finally made it to the end of term.  This week has been symptomatic of life at HGSC with some incredible highs and sadly some terrible news. The carol concert on Monday and the academic excellence celebration evening on Wednesday were both superbly attended and enjoyed by all. Yesterday we served over 1000 free Christmas lunches to students and the atmosphere in school was simply amazing.  As we break up today the culture of kindness and support for each other has shone through and was never more evident this week in the way everyone has dealt with the terrible news on Monday.

This term has seen not only the tragic accident this week but also the death of a very respected and integral member of staff earlier in the year.  No school should have to deal with these issues but the way the staff, students and community have responded with their resilience and determination to stick together and be stronger has truly humbled me.  We especially wish all those affected by these tragic events a very peaceful Christmas and our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

The school continues to go from strength to strength and I personally want to thank all of the parents for their continued support in ensuring our standards and expectations remain the highest they can be.  The staff have worked tirelessly once again and will enjoy their well earned break and be ready to improve even further in 2019.

I hope you can all appreciate the balance of driving improvements hard and demanding the very best at all times and making sure we have fun along the way.  Today has been a wonderful Christmas celebration and the students have been magnificent.

I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a healthy happy New Year.

See you in 2019

Steve
