I just want to let as many people know that I will be doing a sponsored bike race for Macmillan Cancer support next July in the French Alps called L'Etape Du Tour. The event is a fully supported and organised race that follows the same route as the Tour De France Stage a couple of weeks before.
The course and profile is one of the hardest ever used for an amateur race so I see this as a fitting challenge to raise money for Macmillan, a charity that has helped my family and friends over recent years. I have to collect over £650 for the charity just to take part in the event and this is why I’m asking for support from you!
The course is 105 miles long with 5 mountains to ascend (4000m/13100ft of climbing) and has 14,000 participants from all over the world. My aim is to finish with a time that will place me between 2000-3000th place.
Reasons for my participation
Macmillan Support is a charity I feel is one of the most helpful, dedicated and incredible charities in the country for helping those with cancer. I have seen a number of times how this charity provides such incredible care for loved ones and family associates in their hours of need or struggle.
As some of you know I am also doing a 7 day event in the Alps in August called the Haute Route and this will be the biggest challenge I will have faced in my life. This Etape Du Tour race a month before the Haute Route will enable me to see how my training has progressed throughout the year and what final preparations I will need to make.
Haute Route Profile – Alps 2018, 750 miles over 7 days with 21 mountains to ascend (25,000m/85,000ft)
