A Great Start to Y6 Transition

At the beginning of the month we sent details out to all of the Year 6 students joining us in September about our ‘virtual transition’, the first of its kind we have offered to any cohort joining HGSC. This provision was created on the Google Classroom platform to introduce students to the way in which they will be working once they join us, each having their own personal login so their work can be managed online both in school and from home.

Curriculum and transition based activities, such as video tours with our Year 10 students and tasks linked to subjects studied in Y7, are being set on a weekly basis so Y6s are encouraged to check each Monday after 10am to see what’s been uploaded. Students also have the chance to ‘meet’ their Achievement Leader Miss Hulland, as well as the Executive Principal Mr Huntington.

Once the activities are completed, we would love to see the work produced! Students can share their work by uploading it to the Google Classroom or by emailing it to the teacher who set the work.

So far we have had great levels of engagement from an incredible 115 students who have been very busy completing the activities that have been set including Week 1’s ‘Design a product in a Tin’, a product design activity whereby students were asked to get inventive by creating an item, branding it and evaluating the succes

Miss Kirk, our Transition Co-Ordinator, has said she is very impressed with the creativity the Y6 students have shown so far and has enjoyed looking through everyone’s submitted work. There is still time to complete this activity if students wish to take part in the fun!
This week students will have a choice of two different subjects to complete an activity for - full details can be found on the Classroom.

If students would like to join in with the activities but haven’t yet received their login details, or further assistance in needed in order to access the platform, then please contact reception who will be able to assist in getting this information to your child.
